Easter Sunday was six weeks ago. Since then we have been in the Easter Season, or Eastertide. Eastertide will conclude next Sunday on Pentecost. This Sunday we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord, when Jesus was taken up into the clouds and took his place next to the Father in heaven. The Ascension of the Lord, technically last Thursday, occurs 40 days after Easter. The period of 40 days comes from our reading from Acts, chapter 1.

The Gospel of Luke, and the Book of Acts are written by the same person. The gospel tells the story of Jesus and Acts of the Apostles the story of the beginning of the church.
