Our gospel reading this morning comes from Luke, chapter 8, verses 26 through 39. Jesus and the disciples have travelled by boat, across the Sea of Galilee, to a place that Luke says is “opposite Galilee.” In Luke’s gospel, this is the only time Jesus ventures into Gentile territory. There Jesus encounters first one man, then a crowd, and eventually “all the people of the surrounding country.” At the heart of this story is the power of Jesus to command forces of evil, and change lives for the better.
